About

A marketplace for makers, not a feed for dropshippers.

Unique Crafts is a small, deliberately UK-focused marketplace for handmade work. Pottery from a wheel, not a factory. Leather sewn by the person taking the order. Photography that shows the actual piece you'll receive.

We started it because the big general marketplaces drifted away from this — algorithmic feeds rewarded scale, drop-shipping made a tag indistinguishable from a workshop, and the buyer ended up trusting the platform less every year. Our bet is that a smaller marketplace with stricter rules is better for everyone in it.

What's different

Three deliberate choices.

  • Genuinely handmade.

Listings tagged "Handmade" have to be made by the person selling them. We define the line clearly — tools and machinery are fine, contract manufacturers aren't — and we'll occasionally ask for studio photos to verify.

  • UK-focused.

All sellers are UK-based. That keeps shipping reasonable for UK buyers, keeps tax clean, and keeps the platform something a buyer can recognise — not a global lottery.

  • Honest fees.

A flat monthly subscription plus a per-transaction platform fee. No promoted-listing pay-to-play, no dark-pattern surcharges at checkout, no algorithmic prioritisation of paid placements.

How it works

For buyers and makers.

For buyers

Find something, ask the maker, place the order.

  1. Browse by craft, search across the catalogue, or visit a specific maker's shop.
  2. Use the "Ask the seller" button on any listing if something needs clarifying. They're usually delighted to chat.
  3. Add to basket, check out via Stripe, get a confirmation email. Your card details never touch our servers.
  4. The seller posts the item; you get a tracking update if they added one. Statutory rights apply — see the returns policy.

For makers

Open a shop in an afternoon.

  1. Set up your shop profile — name, slug, bio, country, policies.
  2. Connect Stripe Connect for payouts. Stripe handles identity verification; we get a yes/no.
  3. List your work. Photos, materials, dimensions, processing time — everything a buyer needs to commit.
  4. When orders come in, mark them shipped, post them out, and get paid via Stripe's usual rolling cadence.

No signup required to browse. Buying needs an account — free, takes about a minute. Selling involves a Stripe identity check and the monthly subscription, which you can cancel any time.
